About me

Art is a reflection of where we've been, where we are, and where we're headed. But to me, art is also love—the love of a place, a person, or a moment frozen in time.
Minnesota holds a special place in my heart, which is why I primarily paint its landscapes. Like many Minnesotans, I grew up spending summers on the North Shore and in Ely—places that became my home away from home. Skipping rocks, hunting for agates, roasting marshmallows over the fire, watching thunderstorms from inside my tent, playing Scrabble late into the night, stargazing, and hiking through the wild beauty of the north—these memories shaped me. Now, I pass this tradition on to my son, introducing him to the magic of the North Shore in Grand Marais, where we spend our summers on our sailboat in the harbor.
Choosing northern Minnesota as the focus of my paintings was effortless—its landscapes offer endless inspiration, demanding to be celebrated through art.
After years of exploring different painting techniques, I developed a style I call Textural Impressionism—a contemporary approach inspired by post-impressionist masters Van Gogh and Monet. Using impasto oil paint applied with both a palette knife and a brush, I layer thick, expressive strokes to evoke depth, movement, and emotion. My goal is to give viewers a deeper appreciation for Minnesota’s great outdoors—to make them feel the wind off Lake Superior, the crunch of leaves beneath their boots, and the quiet awe of a star-filled night.
You can find my work at Sivertson Gallery in Grand Marais, Siiviis Gallery in Duluth, and Bell Street Gallery in Bayfield and Madeline Island. I'm also happy to accept commissions. If you have a vision, I'd love to bring it to life for you.
